Jean Studer

Mr. Jean Studer is President of the Bank Council at Swiss National Bank since April 5, 2012. Prior to that, he was Vice President of the Board at Schweizerische Nationalbank since April 25, 2008. Additionally, he acts as Member of the Compensation and Chairman of Nomination Committee of the Company. Before that, Mr. Studer served as Director at Schweizerische Nationalbank from March 9, 2007. He is President of the Cantonal Government as well as Head of the Department of Justice, Security and Finance of the Canton of Neuchatel.

Thomas Jordan

Dr. Thomas J. Jordan has been Chairman of the Governing Board at Swiss National Bank since April 18, 2012. Prior to that, he was Vice Chairman of the Governing Board at the Companyfrom January 1, 2010. Before that, he acted as Member of the Governing Board at Schweizerische Nationalbank. He studied at the Universitaet Berne, where he received his Doctorate in Economics (Dr.rer.pol.) in 1993. Following a three-year post-doctoral research position at the Department of Economics at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the United States, where he wrote his post-doctoral thesis (Habilitation), the Universitaet Berne appointed him lecturer (Privatdozent) in 1998 and honorary professor in 2003. He lectures in monetary theory and monetary policy. Between 2002 and 2007, Dr. Jordan held a further lectureship at the Universitaet Zuerich, teaching monetary policy. He joined the Swiss National Bank (SNB) in Zurich as an Economic Advisor in 1997. Two years later, he was appointed Assistant Director of the Economic Studies unit and, in 2002, took over as Head of the Research unit. After his promotion to Director with effect from the beginning of 2004, the Federal Council appointed him Deputy to the Head of Department III of the SNB. In this function, Dr. Jordan headed the financial markets division (money market operations, foreign exchange and gold operations, asset management, risk management and financial market analysis) as from mid-2004. With effect from May 1, 2007, the Federal Council appointed him Member of the SNB’s Governing Board and Head of Department III (Financial Markets, Banking Operations and Information Technology). With effect from the beginning of January 2010, the Federal Council elected him to be the Vice Chairman of the Governing Board and Head of Department II (Finance, Cash, Financial Systems, Security) in Berne.

Olivier Steimer

Fritz Zurbruegg

Mr. Fritz Zurbruegg is Vice Chairman of the Governing Board of Swiss National Bank since July 1, 2015. Previously, he was Member of the Governing Board from August 1, 2012 until June 30, 2015. After graduating from the Swiss School in Rome, Italy, he studied at the University of Bern, completing his degree in 1985 and his doctorate in 1989. Also in 1989, Mr. Zurbruegg joined the Federal Finance Administration (FFA) in Berne. From 1992 to 1994, he worked for the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington as an economist in the Africa Department, before returning to the FFA and assuming leadership of the IMF and International Finance section. From 1998 to 2006, he was Senior Advisor and Executive Director for Switzerland at the IMF in Washington, and represented the interests of Switzerland as well as those of Azerbaijan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Poland, Serbia/Montenegro, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan on the Executive Board. After returning to Berne, he headed the Fiscal Policy, Fiscal Equalization, Financial Statistics section. In April 2010, he was appointed Director of the Federal Finance Administration by the Federal Council; his responsibilities included drawing up the Confederation budget and financial plan, the implementation of the debt brake, as well as liquidity and debt management of the Confederation. He also represented Switzerland in domestic and international committees of experts on fiscal policy. The Federal Council appointed him Member of the SNB’s Governing Board and Head of Department III (Financial Markets, Banking Operations and Information Technology).

Andrea Maechler

Dr. Andrea M. Maechler is Member of the Governing Board of Swiss National Bank since July 1, 2015. She is responsible for Financial Markets, Banking Operations and Information Technology. She studied economics at the University of Toronto, and then at the Graduate Institute of International Studies in Geneva, where she obtained her Master’s in International Economics. She obtained her PhD in International Economics from the University of California, Santa Cruz in 2000.
